Cannabis has made its way into our beauty routine.
Beauty editors around the world are used to the bizarre ingredients the industry has been using. From fish enzymes to bird poop, we thought we’d seen it all, until the introduction of marijuana, the controversial narcotic in our favourite skincare.
So why is the use of weed-infused products giving us a buzz?
Well, aside from being a legal way to partake, cannabis boasts anti-inflammatory benefits, anti-ageing and acne fighting properties, which have not gone unnoticed by skincare brands.
Cannabis contain EFA’s (essential fatty acids) which are essential to maintain healthy, hydrated skin. As the human body is unable to produce linoleic acid, Omega-3, alpha-linolenic acid and Omega-6, it is essential (as the name suggests) to obtain these through external sources. Whilst most of us would ingest these EFA’s, cannabis, being very rich in these biomolecules, enables us to apply them topically.
Another great advantage, is its antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial ingredients which could help treat skin conditions. What’s not to love? The combined effects of the above help relieve stressed skin, repair and replenish damaged skin, as well as boost elastin.
The good news is you won’t get high applying cannabis-infused cream as the tetrahydrocannabinol won’t penetrate further than the skin.
Some refer to cannabis beauty products as a “Hydrating skin saviour” as it will leave your skin feeling softer, smoother and plumper.
If both the plant and seed oil contain such great regenerative properties, we’re sold! Are you?
