Looking for a glamorous lifestyle but authentic landscapes? Gstaad surely knows how to seduce you.
So as your last day in work before Christmas draws in, you seek the perfect after Christmas getaway destination. Do you opt for a serene and relaxed vacation or an adrenaline rush filled get away? Decisions, decisions!! So why not settle for a place that offers the best of both worlds? Gstaad is a luxury resort that offers a great variety of experiences. Whether it is the idea of walking through beautiful forests, authentic landscapes, the promenade or simply admiring the sheer amount of fur coats and extravagantly expensive cars you will find something to your taste.
We have been going there every year for the past six years and this year will be no exception. Located relatively close to Geneva with easy access from many Swiss big cities, Gtsaad is small piece of paradise that only takes one stay to be completely smitten.
WHERE TO STAY:
$$$$$ The recently renovated Grand Hotel Park is a charming and cosy hotel situated minutes away from the promenade. It is ideal for families and a great alternative to escape the superficiality that you might encounter in the other 5* hotels.
Wispilenstrasse 29, 3780 Gstaad
$$$ Hotel de Rougemont is an exquisite Alpine residence located in Rougemont a 5 minute drive to Gstaad. This elegant boutique hotel offers a unique and contemporary chalet vacation and is the ideal home for couples and families in need of incomparable tranquillity and gentle pace of life.
Chemin des Palettes 14- CH 1659 Rougemont
$$ When comfort meets practicality you get the Saanewald Lodge. A family run gem! Typically Swiss, charming and understated this lodge is the perfect place for sports fanatics, families and couples to stay. There are 30 cosy rooms to choose from for some shut-eye at a very attractive price and if that isn´t enough to convince you they also happen to serve the best Burger in the whole of Gstaad. What really made me fall for this place was the extremely cool and fun ride on the Skidoo from the slopes up to the Lodge.
Hornbergstrasse 22, 3777 Saanenmöser bei Gstaad
WHERE TO SHOP:
Unless you are looking to buy a head to toe outfit from Louis Vuitton head to Lorenz Bach for a great variety of premium and designer clothing and accessories. Be aware, expensive taste comes at quite a cost especially in Gstaad.
Looking for edgy designers ? Head to Mavi Concept, you will fall for their brand selection! Great style & cool atmosphere guaranteed!
WHERE TO EAT:
$$$$$ Sonnenhof- Want to impress your loved one with a romantic dinner? Then head to Sonnenhof, it is tucked away on a hillside overlooking the whole of Gstaad. Both décor and menu are traditionally Swiss and staff exceptionally friendly. Would strongly recommend a truffle based dish and the Simmental beef filet. Reservation recommended.

$$$ Because you can´t be in Switzerland and not indulge in the Swiss specialities of fondue and raclette…Book a table at Chalet Waldhuus, a small chalet located at the back of the Grand hotel Park. Very cosy and cute this little chalet has a capacity of 6 tables. Strongly recommend the champagne and truffle fondue. Reservation necessary.

Spending the day on the slopes?
If the weather is on your side it would be a shame not to eat on the top of Wasserngrat. We must admit that compared to some other ski resorts Gstaad isn’t spoilt when it comes to cool restaurants on the slopes at the exception of the Eagle ski club ($$$$$)which will require you to be on a waiting list for 3 years and an extortionate membership fee. You might be better off be-friending a member and save yourself the hassle. As for something slightly easier going but equally nice, head to the Wasserngrat( $$$). It´s run by the same people that opened le 16 which means we can guarantee you great food and a great view.
$$ Snoasis is a cool Lodge-restaurant with music on the top of Eggli. Wether you are going skiing or just want to relax on sun beds and enjoy the fresh air, Snoasis will be your best option.
WHERE TO BE SEEN:
Ever wanted to party with Valentino, Olivia Palermo and Madonna? Head to the Palace Hotel for drinks in the glamorous lobby and if you have your party shoes on you can dance the night away in Greengo.
WHAT TO DO:
For those with energy to burn we recommend the following:
- Ice Skating
- Dog sled
- Skiing /Cross country skiing
- $$$$$ The Alpina six senses spa is a true sanctuary of peace and well-being inspired by Asian traditions and drawing its energy from the Alpine heart of the Bernese Oberland.
The Alpina Six Senses Spa, Alpinastrasse 23, 3780 Gstaad, tel. 033 888 98 88
- $$ Nail Stop is the perfect pit stop for a great manicure and pedicure. The ladies are welcoming, lovely and entertaining, the décor is very girly and prices extremely good compared to hotels. And to ensure you will be all set for a glamorous night at the Palace, they also opened a blow dry station. No need to break the bank anymore to look good during your Gstaad holidays!
